Sweet Hawaiian Ham

Today’s recipe is a winner y’all! One of my absolute favorites, not to mention it’s chock-full of protein! Today I’m giving you guys my recipe for sweet Hawaiian ham. Well, I should tell you in advance that my family uses turkey ham but I’m sure this works with regular ham as well. We use the Jennie-O kind and it’s just super yummy. It’s also one of the easiest dishes you’ll ever make!

Sweet Hawaiian Ham:

-1 turkey ham (or regular ham- mine are 32 oz)

-1 can (20oz) of crushed pineapple (use juice also)

-half cup of brown sugar

-2 or 3 tablespoons of butter/margarine 

-A baking dish with tall enough sides so that the juice won’t spill out

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Cut the ham into 4-6 slices (depending on how thick you want them to be). Butter the pan you are using. Lay the ham slices next to each other in the pan. It’s okay if the sides are touching, but they shouldn’t be overlapping (on top of each other). Put a small slab of butter on top of each piece of ham. Dump the whole pineapple can on top of the ham (juice and everything). Evenly distribute the pineapple pieces all around the pan. Sprinkle brown sugar on top of each slice, and pop in the oven at 400 degrees for 45 minutes to an hour- depending how crispy you like yours (I do an hour). 

I serve the ham with mashed potatoes and a vegetable (usually pea’s). Pea’s are delicious with this, but they are also one of the veggie’s that are higher in carbs (on the flip side, they’re also higher in protein!). You can really serve it with anything though! I imagine you could even cut the ham into cubes and throw it in a salad! It’s a very versatile food! For a 5 oz portion- 150 calories, 5 carbs, and 20 grams of protein. You guys gotta try this one, it’s just so delicious!
