My Feminist Agenda

My feminist agenda is to make people understand feminism.

There are many misconceptions about feminism. Some people think that all feminists are lesbians or are aggressive, or too tough, too loud, too “butch”. This is NOT TRUE. This is what the media wants you to believe because some men are threatened by women having equal rights. They don’t want more “competition.” They don’t want to share the success and wealth with women. So the media puts all these negative things in your mind about feminism and feminists. Please let me correct some extremely common misconceptions.

Feminism is NOT about hating men. It is about equal rights for both genders. There is NO reason why women should be paid less than men or treated with any less respect!

Feminists come from all walks of life and we are all different people! There is no reason for feminists to be labeled the way that they are (as I explained above).

Feminists are not all women! There are many men out there who also believe and fight for gender equality. If you haven’t heard of the #heforshe movement, LOOK IT UP.

Feminism means something different to everyone, but it all boils down to the same thing: Gender Equality. The right for women to be WHOEVER WE WANT TO BE. We should be able to DRESS how we want to dress. Talk how we want to talk. Sleep with whoever we want to sleep with. Get paid the same dollar amount as men for doing the same work. We should be able to love whoever we want to love. We should be able to live however the fuck we WANT to live! And we should NEVER have to live in fear!!

I wanted to include in this blog a list of (current) famous feminists- female and male. The reason I’m only including the current famous feminists is because the list of feminists throughout history is extremely long! However, I strongly urge everyone to look into it, because it will probably fascinate you guys as much as it did me!

“And the Oscar Goes to…”

Hey loves!!

How was everyone’s Valentine’s Day? Mine was really good! Alex and Timur gave Autumn and I gifts and we went out to dinner and it was a really nice day! I love romance *happy sigh*. And since I once again waited two weeks to update you guys (sorry…), this may be a long one. Sorry in advance! Here goes:

I had a bad eating week the last two weeks. When I started this blog I promised myself I would always be honest and truthful to my readers. You guys need to know that the surgery is NOT the easy way out. It’s not a “quick fix.” It’s hard work. And sometimes you will fail. I hate admitting this, but in the last two weeks of eating badly I gained weight (went up to 255). The reason I am telling you this (other than you guys deserving the whole truth [even the ugly truth]), is because I want you all to know that the important part is PICKING YOURSELF BACK UP after mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes. Everyone. A few days ago I analyzed my biggest mistakes and now I’m working on them. For example instead of eating 5 meals a day (and calling them “snacks”), I am learning how to actually snack. I tried hummus again (before surgery I tried it once and decided I hated it). I got the Sabra Roasted Garlic hummus and I totally love it. For a snack yesterday I had carrots and hummus. I’ve also been eating a lot of blackberries. They are super low in carbs! One of my favorite snacks right now is turkey lettuce roll ups. I take some lettuce cups off of a head of lettuce. I put some honey roasted turkey in it, some lite colby jack cheese, and some chopped tomato and it’s super yummy and pretty much no carbs. It won’t keep you full for more than an hour or two, but it’s delicious and healthy.

My meals are still pretty seafood based but I’ve been slowly incorporating chicken back into the mix. I’m still obsessed with scallops. I often pan-fry scallops and shrimp with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and parsley and they come out fantastic! I eat them with zucchini noodles (if I’m craving a complex carb I’ll have half a cup of mashed potatoes) and broccoli. I found a dynamite recipe for a healthier version of chicken parmesan and it’s to die for! It’s now a part of our weekly rotation. By the way during the two weeks weight gain period I started eating frozen dinners and just….crap. I’ve stopped now. I’m done with frozen dinners and I’m actually starting to cook and eat more organic foods. I just started buying only organic eggs. It may only be one thing but as I keep learning and moving along I’m finding out new info and I will keep modifying my diet (and my family’s) to be healthier and more natural.

Now for some more personal updates:

I was accepted to Northern Illinois University!! I still have to apply to the school of communicative disorders, but I’m super excited about this! Our lease is up in June and we’re trying to decide our course of action right now. Do we move or stay (there is positives and negatives to both)? If we move, where? How much can we/should we spend a month? Blah blah blah. A lot of decisions to make and not much time to make them! I’ll keep you guys updated when the decision is- finally- made.

We are also in the middle of potty training Autumn still. Two words: SO ANNOYING! She has gone potty on our carpet at least 10 times. She does make it to the potty sometimes, too, but she basically picks and chooses when she wants to. If anyone has any advice, please reach out to me!

So last night was the Oscars. Alex is a huge film buff so we watch them every year. WHY DIDN’T BOYHOOD WIN!? Birdman sucked (in my opinion). Anyway, I was so moved by Patricia Arquette’s beautiful speech. I was also positively liberated by the audiences response! This is our time! It is time for equal rights!!!! For those of you who don’t know, I am a feminist. Alex is also a feminist (he was a feminist far before me). Her speech reached deep into my soul and just reminded me of why I am a feminist. I could not love her any more than I already do. Fantastic!

Until next time,

It’s Tough to be a Toddler

Hey guys!

The weekend was pretty hectic, but the party was absolutely perfect! Friday and Saturday were just spent in preparation for the party on Sunday. We finished getting decorations, bought the snacks, got the cake, I got a hair cut (my split ends were awful), the list goes on and on. On Sunday all of our friends came over early, followed us to the party venue, and helped set up everything. Thank God for friends!! These people seriously kept me sane. One batch of my friends (Mel, Sophia, and Dinah) went to the venue early, got them to open the door and open the kitchen. Timur and Marylou dropped Autumn off at my dad’s house and brought stuff (balloons and some decorations) to the venue. And this freed up time for Alex and I to stop and get sandwich trays from Costco. Once we all met at the room everyone helped to set up and it was actually really fun! We were laughing, talking, and just helping each other. Like I said, thank God for friends!

Anyway, I surprisingly didn’t get too stressed out until the morning of the party. I was so flustered that I forgot forks for the cake. UGH. My brother-in-law Evan was nice enough to run to the store and get some plastic forks (crisis- kind of- averted). Like an idiot I forgot to bring juice for the kiddos. Wow. I also forgot ice for the drinks. Aside from all the little things I forgot to do/bring, it turned out great! Autumn had a blast! She played with her friends and family and by the end of the party she was super exhausted. She slept the whole way home. It’s tough to be a toddler.

I went to the gym three times this week. I could have gone more but I also could have skipped another week like I’ve been doing. Now that I’m back at it I’m starting to feel more and more motivated to keep going. I’m still not tracking protein, water, or calories but I lost a pound this week so I’m thinking I’m doing okay.

I don’t have any other updates so I’m going to end this here. I will be posting another recipe sometime soon.

Love to all,

Dimand Girl

Happiness Is

I’m a human being. I have days where I am lazy, sluggish, and miserable. Some days/nights I can’t stop thinking about my mom or other issues that stress me out (my to-do lists, financial issues, etc). Some days/nights things just continue to go wrong. I spilled coffee to start my morning, Autumn peed all over the floor (we’re currently potty training her), and I cut myself while opening a can of whole tomatoes. Some days suck.

But I would say I’m happy 90% of the time. I am a hugely blessed person. I met my soul mate early in life, and I could never have imagined loving someone the way I love him. I met Timur, my best friend in the whole world. We will be best friends for the rest of our lives. And I had my first beautiful child at 21, which seemed like it was too soon and I was too young, but actually my age was a blessing in disguise. I have a fantastic relationship with my dad, and I had an incredible relationship with my mom. My brother and sister are not just my siblings but honestly my best friends (even when I could kill them). My group of friends are legitimately family to me. God is freakin good.

Before I continue I have to say something. This is not a brag fest. One persons happiness is another persons misery. This is just the picture of my happiness. Yours might look completely differently. That being said, I believe that expressing gratitude and appreciation of life lifts people up to happier places. It certainly does for me. Continuing on…

This surgery has added happiness into my life that I never really knew was missing. This surgery gave me a longer future with these people that make me happy. This surgery has made me be a better parent. This surgery has given me so much in just 6 short months.

I saw my endocrinologist on Wednesday (after doing blood tests for him a couple days prior). He said the blood tests came back phenomenal! He said I am still getting great blood sugar ranges, and my hypertension is also cured. My cholesterol is no longer high, and he said I look like a new person. Coming from this doctor, it felt incredible!! He’s always been a very straightforward man. Dare I say even a little bit of a hard ass. To see him being so ecstatic about my progress really helped to renew how I view my progress. He also told me to stop calling myself a slow loser. He said that there will always be people who lose faster, but he said that I was doing fantastic! I left his office smiling from ear to ear.

All that being said, I’m still stalled. And I don’t care. I know I’m not done losing weight. I know this could take 2-3 years, but .I.don’ I will get to the finish line. I just know it. Instead of obsessing over the number on the scale, I’ve just been embracing my new life. I’m enjoying how I can last an hour or longer doing intensive exercises at the gym. I’m enjoying that I now dance, play, jump, and run with Autumn on a daily basis. I’m enjoying that after a long day with a toddler I still have enough energy to cook a healthy dinner for my family. I’m enjoying that we’re planning a vacation soon and I’m not scared that I won’t be able to keep up. I’m enjoying everything.

I don’t have a lot of personal updates really. I’ve been having girls night’s with my girlfriends where we go get dinner and drinks, and then we park somewhere and talk and laugh laugh laugh! We do it every other week and it is such a good time. As I said above, I’ve been cooking almost every single night. Also last week there was an amazing snow day (it must have been at least 3 feet of snow!). Since the boys work in schools and all the schools were cancelled, we were all home together. We all got bundled up and went out into the snow. It was SO fun!!!! We had a snow ball fights, made snow angels, and just ran around in the snow. Autumn loved it too! She was surprisingly fine in the cold!

Also… AUTUMN IS TURNING 3 TOMORROW!!! I can barely wrap my head around it, but it’s really happening. Holy crap. It honestly feels like yesterday when she was born at 2 pounds 10 ounces. She was like the size of a freakin doll! And now my little warrior is about to be 3!! Her party is Sunday and we’re doing a Mickey Mouse and friends theme. I think she’ll have a blast! Updates coming next week!

Love and happiness to all,

Dimand Girl
